Dyspraxia Assessments
Tunbridge Wells, Kent
We provide in-house Dyspraxia Assessments run by our Occupational Therapy team, alongside diagnosis confirmation from our Paediatrician. Assessments are suitable for children and young people aged between 3-17 years, although are more commonly carried out for children aged 5 and over.
What is Dyspraxia?
Dyspraxia, sometimes also referred to as DCD (Developmental Coordination Disorder) affects around 5% of children, commonly impacting movement and co-ordination, as well as a range of other difficulties. It can affect all areas of someone’s life and can make every day activities challenging. Identifying dyspraxia early can be fundamental to ensure physical, learning, social, and emotional needs can be well met, enabling children to reach their full potential.
Please see here to read more about the signs of dyspraxia in children.
Assessment Process
Ahead of your appointment we will ask you to fill in some paperwork about your child. During the assessment you may also be asked to complete further questionnaires, as well as consent for us to contact your child’s school to gain additional information about how your child manages in the school setting.
A diagnostic assessment for dyspraxia will include a standardised assessment of movement skills (The ‘Movement ABC’) carried out by our occupational therapist. This assessment is a recognised standardised assessment used all over the world by multiple health professionals. Your child will be asked to participate in a series of motor tasks in a specified way, in order to provide information on sequencing and planning of movement.
After the assessment, within 14 days, you will receive a formal report detailing the results. This report will confirm whether your child reaches the threshold for a diagnosis of dyspraxia. In order for this to then be confirmed, your child will meet with our paediatrician who will also review the occupational therapy report to ensure dyspraxia is the correct medical explanation for your child.
Booking Process
If you would like to book a dyspraxia assessment, please contact us using the button below, or alternatively telephone us on 01892 320 087.
We will book you in for a 90-minute occupational therapy appointment, followed by a 30-minute paediatrician appointment. As the paediatrician will need to review the report by our occupational therapist, the medical appointment will be booked 2-3 weeks after your initial assessment.
Fees
The full dyspraxia assessment process is £885
This equates to £595 for the initial occupational therapy assessment and £290 for the paediatrician review.
If after your initial assessment, no signs of dyspraxia have been noted, we will cancel your paediatrician appointment, and your child will not need to attend this. You will then be refunded the £290 for your paediatrician appointment.
Follow up Support
If ongoing support or therapeutic intervention is advised, we can provide occupational therapy sessions which are charged at £95. These sessions will aim to help your child carry out everyday tasks to their highest potential, whilst increasing their independence.
